St. Louisans, What Do You Call Yourselves?

Since the city of St. Louis is divided up into a billion other communities, not only is it hard to keep track of which one is which, but what on earth are you supposed to call people from those cities? Wildwoodians? Creve Courians? Rock Hillians?

Obviously, if you are currently living in the St. Louis area, you can consider yourself a St. Louisan. If you're also from Missouri (instead of a transplant to the Lou), then you are also a Missourian. If you're from somewhere else, you're on your own.

Turns out, I wasn't that far off. After a lot of research (aka Google-guessing) here are a few of the various St. Louis County Communities, and how the people who live in them are traditionally referred to.

  • Wildwood: Wildwoodians
  • Beverly Hills: Beverly Hillsians
  • Fenton: Fentonites
  • Florissant: Florissantians
  • Maplewood: Maplewoodians
  • Olivette: Olivetians
  • Eureka: Eurekans
  • Bridgeton: Bridgetonians
  • Crestwood: Crestwoodians
  • Cool Valley: Cool Valleyans
  • Chesterfield: Chesterfieldians
  • Clayton: Claytonites
  • Oakland: Oaklanders
  • Shrewsbury: Shrewsburians
  • Kirkwood: Kirkwoodians

It's usually a good guess to just add "ians" or "ans"  to the end of the city, but there are always exceptions.

I know that there are lots more that I couldn't find, so what do you refer to yourself as?
