I grew up in South County but live in Alton now. My hubby lived there and that’s where his business is so I had to pack it up. I obviously drive to see my parents, still in South County. So, I have an empty tank yesterday and must fill up for the 45 minute drive down South. I basically go from one end of 255 to the other—missing one exit. There’s a gas station in Illinois right before you get on 255. It’s the only one on my way to the highway. I think it just opened about two months ago. Connected to a grocery store, I think it’s owned by the store. Anyway…..I fill ‘er up at 2.98 a gallon!!!!! I make my way down 255, over the JB Bridge and onto Telegraph. I check the gas stations on that street. Are you ready for this? 2.76 per gallon. Are you kidding me? Generally, Illinois is about 10 cents more expensive. Ten cents, not 22 cents!!!!!! It made me sick to my stomach. Somehow it doesn’t seem right and I feel cheated. I’m still fuming—no pun intended.
Just a warning for everyone crossing into Illinois, get gas before you come over!!
