The story

Nothing could have prepared me for the scene ToastedRav was met with at Chaifetz Arena for the 2009 FIRST Robotics Regional Competition. Huge robots were dueling, fans in matching neon attire were doing the wave and everyone was wearing incredibly attractive safety glasses (including yours truly). Check out the full story.

I did that once! We came first in qualifying (thanks to some idiosyncrasies of the scoring system) but crashed out in the first knockout round.

This event looks fun. It was cool to see all the different robots people invented for the event and how so many people are involved. It's awesome!

This is a great organization! I recently moved to the west coast and flew back from San Francisco so I could be the head ref for this competition (I've been head ref for the St. Louis Regional for the last 5 years) You see me briefly in my yellow uniform behind the MC with the Hawaiin shirt. If you have any interest in helping out, whether you're an engineer, web designer, animator, entrepreneur (they need to develop business plans for their teams: it costs $6000 just to enter!) or just want to give them a helping hand on event day, go to www.usfirst.org and volunteer! There's even a little competition for elementary/middle school kids in December/January that used Lego Robots!
