They're one of the biggest band's ever on one of those highly anticipated reunion tours, but it appears the Eagles may find out the hard way that St. Louis isn't fond of (Hotel)California prices.
Tickets went on sale at 10:00 this morning for the band's September 20th show at the Scottrade Center. Four hours later, you can still get seats in the 26th row on the floor!
The catch: face value for those tickets is $185! Each! And that's before Ticketmaster tacks on a bunch of ridiculous service charges!
A pair of tickets in the $125 range is also easy to come by. Section 107, Row KK can still be had for that, still staggering, price. Nosebleed seats (300 level) for $75 and $40 are available as well.
There was a time not long ago when tickets to an Eagles show would have been gone faster than lifeboats on the Titanic. I don't think that the quality of the band or the music has gone down much since those days. But the price is now, officially, through the roof.
Someone needs to get their heads screwed back on straight regarding the price of concert tickets. Some of these acts (or their promoters) seen to have an over-inflated sense of value in the product they're selling. Plus, the prices are all over the place!
For example: Bruce Springsteen, another Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, is also coming to the Scottrade. His most expensive ticket is $89! Nearly a hundred bucks less than then Eagles! I personally got tickets for the Police last summer in New York City for under $90 as well. Are the Eagles better than those two acts? I guess it's open to discussion, but I'd say the three are all in about the same class. (Personally I like the Eagles least fo the bunch)
It's not to say I don't like the Eagles. I do. But I desperately hope they don't sell out here or anyplace else. Maybe then someone will figure out that there's a limit to what we'll pay to see even the best bands play live. This is totally out of control!
