KSDK -- In Clarksville, forecasters are predicting record flooding by Friday. At a crest of 38 feet, the Mississippi will be 13 feet above flood stage there. The mayor says they desperately need more volunteers to help with the sandbagging effort.
Clarksville got more sandbags Sunday night, and they're expecting more sand Tuesday morning. Now they just need more people to help put it all together.
In the growing crowd of workers, Bootsie Duvall is easy to spot. She's the one who's outfit matches her house. Bootsie is passionate about the color purple, about her residence, and most of all, about her town.
"God will take care of us. Yes that's for sure. We have lots of faith and if it goes, it's just stuff," Duvall said.
But thousands of volunteers are trying to make sure these sandbags and levees hold to keep Clarksville safe. The Mississippi is so far out of its banks that it looks more like a lake than a river.
In the middle of the mess sits the restaurant belonging to Nathalie Pettis. She's got 11-pumps going and lots of help.
"Twenty-four hour watch, going in shifts. It's like a rowboat with a hole in it and we're just going to be getting that water out," Pettis said.
And she's not alone.
"We're doing everything that can be done with the numbers of people that we have. And that's the problem," said Clarksville Mayor Jo Anne Smiley.
So the Mayor is calling for help. She says Clarksville is desperate for more volunteers. Already, they've got everyone from prisoners to boyscouts lending a hand. And the Missouri National Guard says today they're doubling the number of troops in town.
