On American Idol last night, the contestants had to sing Mariah Carey songs.  I wasn’t sure how that was going to go over, but I was actually impressed.  The guys did better than the girls, which surprised me.  David Cook is still my favorite!  Here’s a review of the Top 7:

• David Archuleta - sang "“When You Believe” and the judges loved it.  He does nothing for me, but he is favored to win.
• Carly Smithson - song choice was “Without You” and it wasn’t bad.  I really like Carly, but I feel like we get the same performance from her every week.
• Syesha Mercado - sang “Vanishing” and she sang it well.  Simon made a comment that he didn't think it was a good idea to sing a song that no one knows, and I kind of agree with him.  When I don’t know the song, I tune out.
• Brooke White – was not on top of her game last night.  She sang "Hero".  I think that is a tough song to sing and it showed in her performance.
• Kristy Lee Cook - sang “Forever” and it wasn’t horrible, but I’m not a fan.  I think she should have been voted off weeks ago.
• David Cook – song choice was “Always Be My Baby” and he was AWESOME!!!  The judges all agreed that he is the real deal and could record an album right now.
• Jason Castro – sang “I Don’t Wanna Cry.” He’s so sweet and innocent when he sings.  How can you not like him?
