Last year's Home Run Derby star was Texas outfielder Josh Hamilton. He's in St. Louis as an American League all-star. The Rangers' slugger took Major League Baseball by storm last year with an amazing season and an incredible 28 homeruns in the first round of the home run derby.
Hamilton is a recovering drug addict, steroid user and was beset by numerous injuries after being the number one draft choice in baseball's amatuer draft a number of years ago. Now a devoted Christian, Hamilton is a source of inspiration for thousands of people accross the country. Hamilton receives countless letters from people with similar struggles. Those letters, e-mails and phone calls are sources of encouragement as he continues to fight his personal battles everyday.
Hamilton blasted 32 home runs and drove in 130 runs and inspired fans with his rags to riches story. He was out of baseball due to his personal demons and had made it all the way to the pinacle of baseball stardom. Some injury problems have hindered him a bit this season, but he's healthy again and ready to spark the Rangers' second half bid for a play off spot.
With all that he's gone through, minor injuries haven't discouraged this extremely talented and uniquely humble man. He told me, he's actually more 'at peace' than at any time in his life! His book "Beyond Belief" chronicles his story from drug addiction to stardom and the help he has recieved from friends, counselors and the Lord Jesus.
Josh is committed to a movement called "I Am Second" and you can read more of his story at http://iamsecond.com/
