Ah--modern technology. Such a help to us in so many ways. But--just because people have more ways to connect-its not making people feel more connected.
A new study shows that people feel more lonely these days-even though technology is providing more ways to reach out to others. 2/3 of the people who participated in this study say they believe there is more loneliness in society in general today than there has been previously. 60% admit they have fewer meaningful relationships now than they did 5 years ago.
80% acknowledged that with e-mail-IM-text messaging-and social networks it's easier to stay in contact with others-but-it hasn't resulted in forging meaningful bonds. Respondents on Facebook average 136 friends-but only 6 committed confidants.
I've said it all along--technology is not a good replacement for the old person-to-person--face-to-face conversation. If you agree--shoot me an email. I'll read it and quickly delete it without replying. :)
