I was for declawing years ago when I lived in town. I never encountered any problems. However, we moved to the country and a few years later got a cat (Bingo). When he was old enough to get fixed, we did, and at the same time got him declawed. It was a mistake that cost him his life.

He loved being outside as well as inside. He was SO loving and the ONLY cat my husband has ever liked!! He feels responsible because he let Bingo out that fateful Saturday morning along with Sammy our C@cker Spaniel. When I got up, Sammy soon came to the door wanting in. But I knew right away something was wrong. Sammy was shaking and salivating heavily. HE NEVER DOES THIS!!! He was terrified. A little while later, I saw him jump onto the chair by the back door (a sliding glass door) and look out. He again started shaking and salivating, scared again. I looked to see what he was looking at and there was a coyote not 10 feet from our back door.

It was then I started really getting worried about Bingo. I had called for him earlier when I let Sammy in, but it had no effect.

I opened the door and chased the coyote away. About a half an hour later when we still had not seen or heard anything from Bingo we went looking for him. We looked and called ALL day long and into the night.

Bingo was gone for good. And I'm the one that did it to him. I'm just as guilty as that coyote was. We never found any sign of Bingo or his collar.

Sammy was absolutely terrified when he came in and NOTHING scared him. And when that coyote came to the back door, Sammy would have normally barked his head off wanting to go through the door after him. But we now know that Sammy probably witnessed what happend to his little brother Bingo which is why he was so terrified. He looked for Bingo for weeks before finally accepting that he wasn't coming home.

You see, because I had Bingo declawed, he had no protection against this predator and couldn't even climb a tree to get away from it.

Don't let this happen to your baby.

That was a pretty good test. My little ones scored a 28 which makes them smarter than average!! But, of course, I knew that already!!

Hi all!! You probably noticed in the picture here that there are SEVEN dogs, not six as I said in my previous posts.

Well, I, without my husband's previous knowldege, got a Chug, which is a Pug and Chihuahua "hybrid." We named her Penny Sue. We had her for almost a year.

Penny was definitely not your standard laid-back Pug!! One we had her spayed/neutered (never could keep those two straight), she settled down some. But when everyone was in for the night and settled down napping or watching TV, Penny was still ready to rumble!!

She definitely had more Chihuahua than Pug in her. She was tremendously easy to house train, but that was the only thing easy about her. Well, she was easy to love, I'll give her that. The funny thing is when one of the other dogs had something she wanted, she just went and got it and they LET her. She got away with murder with the other six.

The household was definitely in a constant uproar. It got to the point where we had to buy a crate for her. We got a huge one that was big enough to put her bed, blankets, and toys in. So we she got to roudy we would put her in her pen. We started out with a box, but she couldn't see out to see what everyone else was doing and carried on something aweful.

During the day we would put her out in the big Pen outside with the others and she climbed over the fence and would come up to the back door wanting back in!!

More to come later and I'll tell you why we no longer have Penny Sue.

    Love to All,

Thanks Nancy, oh, you'll be hearing lots more from me about my all of my animals, past and present and who knows what the future will bring. I didn't know I'd be raising a baby squirrel until she feel out of the tree at a friends house. Now she is a very cherished part of our family even tho she does live outside now.

Keep your eyes open for "Shadow's Story" coming soon. A very touching, but true story about a wonderful horse that just happened to "appear" in our pasture one night.
