Interesting thoughts. I'm in agreement with the hopes that rehabilitation has occurred in his life but I think I disagree with disconnecting the two. (rehab and painting) Having worked with people in areas where crime is a fact of life it is the prevalent attitude of despair that causes the most damage. Without hope (or a skill or "way out") what's the difference between committing a crime or not? If you're destined to be the victim, why try? (I'm not downplaying or dismissing his crime) Obviously there's not enough background info to know any of this but I'm a firm believer in second chances... that's all
