If you read the PDF file from the link I have at the top you will see that taxing cigarettes is actually a very productive tool. The big tobacco companies will suffer losses, but they have already countered this by upping their prices on cigarettes. Thus, making a pack of cigarettes around $6.00 at the moment. When the new tax gets passed they will be around $7.00 a pack, that is more than a usual days lunch.
All of this makes it a great time to quit smoking, just ask me. I have been smoking for over 10 years. I do consider this a wake up call more than anything. I've always had breathing troubles with bronchitis and whatnot. I have a 5 year old son and I want to see my grand babies Not as stressful as I thought it would be actually. I suppose I have a strong will. Anyone else thinking about quitting? Or maybe have a problem with the companies and the government jacking up prices?
