On July 18 Councilwoman Barbara Fraser introduced an ordinance which would put the ban on the November general election ballot.
Toastedrav decided to see what St. Louisans think about banning the cancer sticks from restaurants, so we headed down to The Loop to get a few opinions on this issue.
]]>Of four scenarios tested, unimpaired driver, drunk driver, driver reading e-mail and driver sending a text message, the texting driver had the slowest reaction time. Currently, 14 states have laws making texting illegal while driving and more states are currently debating the hot-button issue. Over 66% of drivers between 18 and 24 claim to text while driving and this percentage is on the rise within that age group and among others as well. Toastedrav headed to University City's Loop to hit the streets and ask St. Louis how it feels about texting while driving.

Answer me this: if most broadcasters come from the Midwest because they don't have an accent, then why do we have such a hard time pronouncing St. Louis street names, and even our own state's name? This burning question may not have been answered when we headed to the St. Patrick's Day parade equipped with a list, a microphone and a video camera, but some of the pronunciation flubs that run rampant in our city were definitely exemplified when we asked people to read from our list.

It may have been by benefit of all the green beer that was flowing, but we heard some pretty interesting variations of these words when we asked St. Louis to try their hand at reading them. To test your skills, and to see others doing the same, check out our video on [tab:trav_video].
Love or loathe mispronunciations, they are everywhere. If not having a silent "s" on the end of Gravois really gets under your skin, you should also check out Audrey's article on some other words that Missouri commonly mispronounces.
A record crowd turned out for this year's St. Patty's Day Parade in Dogtown, and ToastedRav headed down to join in on the festivities. There were crowds from as near as the neighborhood and as far as Dublin Ireland celebrating the annual wearing of the green.

As sure as St. Louis will have green beer in March, we also have the long ago names from some of our favorite institutions so ingrained in our minds that when they change we have a hard time adjusting. (How's that for a transition reach?) While we were in Dogtown, we quizzed St. Louis about some of the more famous name changes to see which old names we are hanging on to the most.

Everyone knows that Clooney is in St. Louis - yadda, yadda, yadda - but what some of you might not have known is that there are several other "celebs" who are living among us in the St. Louis area. So I did what any celeb-obsessed blogger would do, and I decided to call up a few of these famous residents and ask them about everyone's favorite site...again.
Apparently, Twilight's Kristen Stewart is too-cool-for-school, and said that she would like to "refrain from commenting" about our site, St. Louis or anything having to do with toasted ravioli. Her loss.
Thankfully, a few other celebrities were a bit more chatty. J. "Jodie" Foster said that she would like for ToastedRav to cover more "family friendly events for St. Louisans with children," but also notes that she has never been to the site. Otherwise, she could have gone here or here. Hopefully Miss Foster will check us out since we "sound pretty interesting."
After having such a pleasant conversation with Jodie, I was pretty taken-aback by how Sarah J. Parker's was. When I asked her what she would like to see ToastedRav cover, she said "I don't even live in St. Louis anymore. I'm in Kansas City. I don't have time for this!" Sorry to bother you, horse-face.
Bruce Willis clearly didn't want to chat (the disconnected phone line gave it away), so I
dialed up St. Louis' Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson instead. It took him awhile to figure out who I was and why the heck I was calling him, but after we got that straightened out, he said he'd like to see our site "focus on more plays." For more of him, head here.
Now that you've heard what STL's resident famous people had to say, I'll turn the question to all of you: What would you like to see more of on ToastedRav?

When it comes to good old American edibles, Saint Louis is the mother of invention. Sure, we may be among the nation's most miserable cities, we may have a football team that's lately more suited for PeeWee competition, and we may have a bit of an asthma problem, but naysayers can never call us uninventive when it comes to stuffing our faces. From gooey butter cake to the Saint Paul sandwich, the Gateway City has birthed more than a few foods. Therefore, we thought it appropriate to hit the streets to Ask St. Louis which tasty local invention is the most smile-inducing. Click [tab:trav_video] for more.]]>

Sure, it's still winter, but it's kinda-maybe-almost nearing spring, which makes me think of grilling, which makes me want steak. Hopefully you were able to keep up with my random thought process, but either way, we at ToastedRav decided we were curious about where St. Louisans go to eat meat. More specifically, what restaurants in St. Louis grill up the most mouth-watering steaks?
And if you do make it to a restaurant, say Tucker's Place or Ruth's Chris Steak House, how do you ask for one of your favorite steak sauces? Wor-cher-shire? Wor-chest-er-shire? Wor-shire? Most people think they can say it just fine, but we sure heard a lot of variations when we asked St. Louis.
To see whether or not your fellow St. Louisans at 6 North Coffee Company are better at pronouncing Worcestershire Sauce than yours truly, and to find out where they eat their meat, check out [tab:trav_video].

I take pride in customers who come in early - I go the extra mile for them.
Don't ask me to read your card for you. It's not going to be from ME so why does it matter?
Don't come in and complain that there's no selection. There has been a selection for the past three months. It's not our fault if you wait until 6 p.m. on Valentine's Day to come get your card.
Kids, don't forget to take care of your moms for Valentine's Day.
Also, most people don't know that you get a free stuffed animal when you buy any three Hallmark cards, and they usually walk out without it.
Ms.Anonymous from a local florist (They seemed a bit stressed at the moment, and didn't wait to publicly claim their ranting.)
Get your [naughty language removed] together!
It's not my fault that you didn't get your wife's hints until today.
Brian from Dierbergs
Guys, if you're not exactly monogamous, don't flaunt it. We had a guy in here the other day who bought 10 boxes of chocolates, and when someone asked him why, he said it was because he had a lot of women.
Pat from Creve Coeur Florist
Don't expect to call today and have same day delivery. It's Valentine's Day!
You should always plan on ordering flowers two or three days in advance, because we run out of stuff. It's the day before Valentine's Day, and we're already out of tulips.
Look on the website to have an idea about the cost of what you want so that you're not surprised when you call your order in.
Chelsea and Talia from Kirlins Hallmark
Pay attention to your coupons before you come in to use them, and especially read the fine print. I literally can't let you use your whole stockpile of coupons at the same time, so please don't get mad at me.
We get so many complaints about the card selection, but it's not like they haven't been out for awhile. The early bird catches the work.
Don't think that a card counts as a gift. It's nice, but you shouldn't give them only that.

When I spotted LaVerne in a West County Target, I knew instantly that she would be my Style on the Streets this week. Between the clean lines and the bright color of her classy combination, this self-described clothes horse stood out to me more than anyone I'd seen all week. Plus, everyone knows my theory is that when all else fails, turn to Target. When I caught up with her, she had just finished dropping off some Valentine's Day goodies with her grandkids on her way home from work.
What she's wearing:
Pants: Talbots
Cami: Chico's
Blazer: Talbots
Scarf: Talbots
Shoes: Michelle D. from Macy's
Coat: Jones New York
Belt: Chico's
Purse: Dooney & Bourke (not pictured)
LaVerne on her own style - I'm urban but still traditional. I like classics like this coat, which I've had for five or six years, because they are timeless. I like separates too, because they seem to fit really well.

Style inspiration - I love Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada.
What you won't find her wearing - I don't buy too many really trendy things...you would never find me in leggings. I think super short skirts are a really bad trend right now.
Favorite part of her outfit - I love this scarf. I've loved the colors in it since I got it last season. It spices up my outfit and seems to tie everything together.
LaVerne's stylish motto - I just like to have fun. It's really easy to dress boring, so I try hard not to be.

I am pretty familiar with Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Jasmine and Belle, but Pocahontas, Mulan and soon-to-be princess Tiana were all a bit after my Disney prime. Let's face it - for most of us, it has been awhile since we sat down to watch a good Disney marathon.
I'll always be partial to The Little Mermaid. In my humble opinion, it has the best songs, the best princess and the best shell bra. Click on [tab:trav_video] to see what the folks on Delmar had to say about Disney's leading ladies.
I know we're all adults here, but there's nothing wrong with reminiscing about Disney's iconic princesses. Which one is your favorite?
]]>And not that I'm paranoid about my identity being stolen or anything, but before I submit so much personal info about myself, I want to know what I'm getting myself into. Unfortunately, the pages and pages of legal jargon and mumbo-jumbo on the site didn't really help me out. I would much rather hear from someone who knows firsthand (or secondhand or thirdhand) what the deal with these free laptops is. Any insight?
