An anniversary that defines every map of St. Louis

81 years ago today an event happened that left an indelible mark on maps, parks, buildings and businesses across St. Louis.

It was on this day Charles Lindbergh landed the Spirit of St. Louis in Paris, France, making Lindbergh one of our nation's biggest heroes and forever etching St. Louis into the lexicon of aviation. (Sorry McDonald Douglas, you finish second in that competition)

I was trying to think of all the things that would be different here had some guy from Cleveland made the flight instead.

Lindbergh Boulevard might just be Kirkwood Road for it's full length. Or maybe Augie Busch's name would be stuck on it.

The Spirit of St. Louis airport would probably just be Chesterfield Airport. Sorry, Chesterfield, but your name is boring.

I wonder who the Lindbergh school district would be named after. Purina maybe? Lindbergh High School used to be called Grandview. (It was re-named for the pilot in 1952) I guess it would have just stayed Grandview High.

You've probably been here longer than I have. What other Lindbergh's am I forgetting? What do you think they'd be called?
