This potentially fatal form of the herp is common among young, elephants both in captivity and in the wild.
The elephant version of the virus shows up as a rash like set of bumps. I'm not a zoologist, but if I had to guess, I would say it probably looks similar to this:


There have been no recent reports of either Rihanna or Paris being in St. Louis, so it is probably safe to assume that Jade's case is unrelated. The St. Louis Zoo said that her condition is currently stable and since the virus progresses rapidly they see that as a good sign. The Zoo is working hard to keep Jade's condition stable and they have a team in place to give her around the clock care.
