It seems like the only thing on television during the summer are repeats and reality T.V. I don’t mind so much because I am, admittedly, a reality T.V. show junkie. Although I do miss my regular guilty pleasures like “Lost”, “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Brothers and Sisters”.

But this summer will be different! The 2008 Summer Olympics officially kicks off on August 8th in Beijing with the opening ceremonies promptly starting at 08:08:08 pm CST. The opening ceremony and most of the events are to be held at the Beijing National Stadium in Beijing, China.

This picture shows the stadium from the outside which has been nicknamed “The Nest”, and you can see why!

China wants to show all they are doing in their environmental protection and conservation efforts during this world wide event. So to add a splash of liveliness to contrast the gray walls of the Olympic venue, China’s State Forestry and Nature Conservancy presented the stadium with 200 photos of beautiful natural scenery. This according to the Beijing Olympics website:

Apparently the photos were part of a conteest hosted by their State Forestry Administration and over 10,000 photos were submitted!

I can never decide which I like better, the summer or winter Olympics, but I can say I am REALLY looking forward to August! The gymnastics, track and field, Archery, Diving, Wrestling, Fencing…I Can’t WAIT!

NBC, the official Olympics station, has a GREAT website which is solely dedicated to the games at:

http://www.nbcolympics.com/

It’s definitely worth checking out. I love reading the bios on the different athletes.
So here is to a NOT boring August on television thanks to the Olympics!
