For all of the single women out there, Valentine’s Day isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be..at least for me. You have visions of grandeur about when you get married. You’ll finally have a date on New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day will no longer be a melancholy day. Right? Not so much.  There’s just a bigger expectation when you’re married and an even bigger let down.

I love my husband to death but “special days” aren’t his forte. I know, many of you married Prince Charming—breakfast in bed, great date nights, Valentine’s Day reservations, cards, flowers and a gift. Hmmmm…must be nice.  My husband’s philosophy is “why do I need a day to give a gift.”  He thinks he should give the gift when he wants to give the gift—not when a day tells him to give a gift. Which is great if he ever “felt” like giving a gift J

So now after six years, I’m finally lowering my expectations. It’s the safest route. I'm not husband bashing..I have a great one...just letting you know the deal.  Let’s dream a little shall we….If I could plan a romantic night for Valentine’s Day here is where I would pick to go:  ok, now I can’t think of anything. Wait—maybe dinner and a nice bottle of wine at Trattoria Marcella (one of my favorite restaurants.) Go to B.B.’s on Broadway, listen to music and then to dinner on the Hill?  Or he could cook me dinner? Ok maybe not.  See, I’ve already been trained.  What do you do in St. Louis to have a romantic night on Valentine’s Day? What are your plans?  If you could plan your night, what would you do?
