Another draft day has come and gone. Dreams fulfilled and smashed all at the same time. This is the beginning of a long a storied career for some and the end of the road for many. Having your named called on draft day must be the thrill of a short lifetime. It must feel like a lifeline that pulls you up and out of the real life grip of mediocrity. You have been spared for one more season.

Jason Smith smells like gold. He walks on water for a short time. Back pats all around. Until Sunday when he must keep enemies at bay, we will hope that he is the one. Is he Neo or just another anomaly? Waiting is hopeless. There is too much time in between now and game day to contemplate ifs. He looks the part and breathes passion and rebuilding. Let’s pray his mortar holds up to NFL pressure.

“Little Animal” is at the bottom of a steep hill looking up. Is he really a settlement offering? Is he the Christmas present that you needed but did not necessarily want?  The boxer shorts my Grandmother would always include under the tree. Dislike is always the first reaction but relief and gratitude win out late. A job well done will get people to forget what got away. Prove us wrong J.L. and you can right your own ticket.
