I have to admit, I learned about Dave Barnes by following him on Twitter.  That's right, the arms of Twitter - whether you love it or not - have reached that far.  He twittered about music but also about Harry Potter, so I was sucked in.

His show at The Duck Room was sold out, and there were quite a few unhappy folks turned away at the door when trying to buy tickets.  The show - like so few at that venue - was non-smoking so while the room was packed (and Dave seems to have an exceptionally tall fan base, since my 5'4" self seemed to be about a head shorter than most everyone else there), the air was reasonably clear.

I went in to the show somewhat familiar with his music - I wasn't a long-time listener but I'd liked what I'd heard.  I wasn't sure quite what to expect.

About half a song into the show, it became clear that no matter what I expected - it was going to be a show to remember.  Dave was incredibly charismatic on stage, but there was a feeling of him being incredibly genuine as well.  He was charmingly funny - not surprising, since he's done stand-up back home in Nashville.

The songs ranged from upbeat to decidely not - such as the sing-along on the song "When A Heart Breaks" from his album Me + You + The World - but all of the music was enjoyable and the fans were, I have to admit, some of the nicest fans I've met.

I would see Dave again in a heartbeat - and hopefully, since his show here sold out - he'll be back soon!
