Nestled along Washington Avenue is a little spot called The London Tea Room. British flair fills the air as you walk in to a cozy room filled with marble tables, teapots, and comfy couches. The fresh hand-made pastries, pies, and scones lure you in and the sound of bubbling tea brings you home...to a place run by homesick Brits.
This cheery environment captivated me as I met up with some old girlfriends for lunch. The London Tea Room staff made it an event for us. Even strangers were eager to go out of their way to take loads of pictures of our group...we never even had the chance to ask. Every bit of the place had a cheery, and warm personality...it was contagious.
This little gem carries more than just tea though, coffee, latte's, sandwiches, salads, or whatever your heart desires! The service is outstanding and very informal...I felt like I made a friend with Jackie (the cook) who was eager to serve and to spread good cheer. That paired with divine food and very inexpensive prices made this place one of the best restaurant cozies I have ever experienced. You bet I'll be back for some more Cream Tea and Blueberry Scones!
The London Tea Room is adjacent to the Brit's little furniture shop called English Living, which has beautiful, ornate furnishings that demand you to take them home with you. Take a sip of tea and browse the European treasures from farmhouse hutches, tables, chests, and of course, tea pots! Since coming to the United States 20 years ago, the staff has worked hard to bring their home to St. Louis and I am so glad they did! Every since my visit (which totaled 3+ hours) I have been dying to go back and try some other goodies on display.
"An authentic London-style tea room in downtown St. Louis run by homesick Brits. Not prim. Not proper. Just bloody good tea."
