Ahh...more about the world of electronic music. I have been listening to what some people classifly as "techno" for quite a few years now. I prefer t call it electronic music, because that really is the best generalization...but I will touch on that subject later. The Crystal Method

It all began for me when my dad used to by soundtracks to movies. I was very touched by the music and eventually in highschool, my dad passed me a tape of the Crystal Method. I loved it and began to look for more music that made me feel this strange electricity. Then, the soundtrack for "The Saint" was passed on once again by my dad. I fell in love with the music even more. Now, almost 10 years later...I am officially obsessed according to some people.

I actually saw the Crystal Method live about three years ago at "The OZ" in East St. Louis...I hate to say that there were probably only 20-30 people there on the weeknight they dropped their beats. It was one of the most personal shows I have attended. It was great to be just 10 feet from one of my greatest inspirations.

MixerAs I have mentioned before, my boyfriend is a basement DJ, meaning his hobby is to hunt music and spin it for hours, just to be "in it". I have picked up the hobby myself, and I enjoy it very much. It is not as easy as it looks, and good mixes take a lot of concentration and knowledge of the structure of tracks. There are no songs...just tracks :) It takes time and skill to become a well seasoned DJ.

The one thing that I still can't put my finger on, is what type of electronic music a track falls into. The sounds and beats can come from a wide variety of inspirations from many genres within. Some tracks can be more than one genre.

Here is a structure that I found online, that sort of maps the genres and where they fall according to the guy who built it. This is not an official breakdown...As there is always controversy an opinions on this subject.

Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music.

You can browse, and click on genres, then subgenres...and some have samples of tracks that fall into those categories. It is helping me and it might help you to find out what suits you! Let me know what you think!
