I've had a few people tell me that I need to take my son (currently 22 months old) on the "Glencoe Train" this year. Well, like all things, parenthood has a learning curve and this was just another kid thing about which I was clueless.

So here's what I've learned about it: The Wabash Frisco and Pacific Railroad is located in Glencoe, Missouri (Wildwood) and is a 12 inch gauge live Steam Railroad. For folks like myself, that translates into a miniature passenger train sized great for children (think similar to the St. Louis Zoo's train, but even smaller).

The Railroad is open every Sunday, May through October rain or shine, so by my calculations that leaves this Sunday, October 26th as your final opportunity to plan a ride this season.

From www.wfprr.com:

Trains start their scheduled departures from the station at 11 am, with trains departing about every 20 minutes. The final train leaves at 4:15 pm. The ride is a two mile round trip lasting about 30 minutes and travels along the scenic Meramec River.

A $3 donation is asked per ticket. Children 3 years old and younger ride free. For more information, call the Wabash Frisco and Pacific Railroad Association, Inc. at 636-587-3538. Click here for directions.

As for me, we tried the aforementioned train at the zoo a few weeks ago, and that didn't go over so well. I don't want to say he hated it...hate is a strong word, but he definitely didn't enjoy it. I'm undecided as to whether or not we'll commit to the 30-minute train ride this Sunday, but I'm feeling good about next year. Hopefully, my toy-train loving toddler will be a little braver next summer.
