I have a penchant for pizza, a love of books, and a strong cup of coffee always makes me smile. When I'm not writing for ToastedRav I like long walks on concrete sidewalks, hanging-lamp lit dinners, and a good bottle of Shiraz.

You may have noticed a certain blushing hue behind us. Despite a valiant effort from our boys of summer, we won't be having a red October, but for the entire month of October ToastedRav.com is going pink. Despite erroneous reports, no - this is not in a show of our solidarity with Paris Hilton's new reality show... it is for a much more noble cause. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and there are a plethora of activities out there aimed at encouraging you to think about the boob.

  • Feel Your Boobies is a non-profit organization started in '05 to promote breast cancer awareness and is campaigning internationally for "women to get in touch with their bodies." They have bumper stickers and t-shirts, and have been holding Boobie Bashes on the Jersey Shore. Their site also says that you can have a Boobie Bash anywhere by contacting them. Do I see a party on the horizon?

  • Local swimwear designer Lori Coulter, featured in O and Fitness magazines, is teaming up with Macy's in Chesterfield Mall for a month long event that will benefit the St. Louis Susan G Komen affiliate. Now through the end of October $10 of every swimsuit sold will be donated to our local Komen affiliate.

  • Tonight, for one night only, the Arch is going to be a part of the campaign. Starting at 7:30pm with a short ceremony by Governor and Mrs. Blunt at the south leg of the Arch, the monument will be washed in pink to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

  • St. Louis Cellars is "all about giving back!" This month a portion of the proceeds from purchases of Mad Housewife Zinfandel, Luna di Luna Merlot, Big Tattoo blend, Cline Cashmere blend, and Twin Fin Rose will be donated to various charities that support breast cancer initiatives.

  • Last, but certainly not least, you can get your pup in on the act with Celebrate Spot at Forest Park on October 12. You and your best friend can participate together in this 5K walk to benefit the Young Women's Breast Cancer Program.

I encourage you to take part in one of these events and help take back the color pink from Ms. Hilton.
