NEW YORK (The Associated Press) - By RONALD BLUM

Yankee Stadium security officials want to determine which fan threw a bottle that struck umpire Derryl Cousins on the knee during a brawl.

Cousins was hit by a bottle full of soda in the eighth inning of Toronto's 10-4 win Tuesday night, and the game finished with just three umpires. Cousins, who said the bottle was thrown from the stands, was back for Wednesday night's series finale between the Yankees and Blue Jays.

"It came from an area that is reserved seats," said Sonny Hight, a Yankees senior vice president and chief security officer. "We're looking into it. It might be difficult. Hopefully we'll come up with something."

Said World Umpires Association spokesman Lamell McMorris: "Safety continues to be an issue, not just for umpires but for players and fans alike."

"It did not appear it was aimed directly at him. You had 50-plus people there with the benches clearing. He just happened to be the recipient. It happens, unfortunately."
