About The Author:

Yours truly is super excited about being a part of the terrific team that is 101 ESPN! My job is to supply afternoon updates from noon to 7PM and cover the St. Louis Blues (something I've been privileged to do off and on since the 1991-1992 season).

I grew up in the area, hailing from the steeltown of Granite City, Illinois and began covering hockey while earning a degree from SIUE.

It's been three weeks since Sidney Crosby held the Stanley Cup over his head following a 2-1 win for the Pittsburgh Penguins in Detroit, capping off a seven-game Final. Since that time a very busy stretch of hockey happenings has transpired. The annual awards were handed out, the draft took place in Montreal and free agency is underway in the NHL.

Months ago I elected to take a vacation during the first full week of July, thus not missing any of the big offseason stories in hockey leading up to the start of free agency. There is something to look forward to for the hockey fan, next week however, as the 2009-2010 schedule should be released for the Blues and the league's other 29 teams.

Yours truly, TPC, will get some much needed rest at the pool before returning on July 13th fully refreshed and ready for more blogging. Will the 101 ESPN Employee of the Month title-belt end up at the bottom of the Waterman Pool? Many are already speculating. It's likley a sure bet that the title will be as necessary an accessory as sunblock, a Disc-man, sunglasses and a beach towel.

I just heard D'Marco Farr say that the Lakers will repeat next year based on the expected signing of Ron Artest. What ever happened to the parade D'Marco was planning on Olive? The Penguins re-signed winger Ruslean Fedotenko today (one year, 1.8 million). Do I dare project a Stanley Cup repeat? Not a chance. I'm afraid the departures of defensemen Rob Scuderi (Kings) and Hal Gill (Canadiens) will be too much for Pittsburgh to overcompensate for despite bringing back Fedotenko and Bill Guerin. But you never know when you have Crosby and Evgeni Malkin in your lineup.

Enjoy the enjoyment, everybody!
