Fake Mayor Slay: Take My Village, Please!

Okay gang, you already know my feelings on Ballpark Village.  Nothing says "downtown revitalization" like a gaping muddy hole in the ground just blocks from all of your centerpiece attractions.  As you can see, I'm a demon with a shovel and hard hat, maybe it's time for me to get "hands on" with this thing.  Too bad I'm in China.

Well, apparently this whole deal is falling through because some company named Centene backed out of moving their HQ there.  I admit I have no idea what Centene makes or does.  I think they sell chemicals and analysis equipment, like centrifuges and benzene.  So maybe it is best that they not be downtown anyhow.  Look how that Praxair thing turned out.  Great for television, bad for people allergic to 600 m.p.h. gas canisters.

I know a lot of folks want to lay blame at the feet of the Cardinals for not fulfilling the promise they made when we did the stadium deal.  But I don’t think that is fair.  They have lots of money tied up bringing in top-notch free agent talent like Todd Wellemeyer, Cesar Izturis and Jason LaRue.  They can’t honestly be expected to pour any money from the 3.5 million fans who attend their games every year down a big muddy hole.  Literally.

Maybe while I’m here in China I’ll use my “in” with Chairman Zhou to see if we can borrow some sections of the Great Wall to put around the big muddy hole to dress it up a bit.

Wait!  That gave me an idea!  We’ll commission an artist (for a couple of million bucks) to put up 8 big pieces of rusty metal in a giant triangle!

Belay that order.  J.Ray has just informed me that we already frittered away one whole city block on that idea.
